Free Online PDF Editor — Add Text & Draw on PDFs
PDFScanner's Edit PDF tool lets you annotate any PDF with text, freehand drawings, and rectangles. Annotations are rendered onto the PDF as image layers using pdf-lib, making them permanently visible in all PDF viewers.
Limitations of Browser-Based PDF Editing
This tool adds annotations as image overlays on top of existing PDF content — it does not allow editing existing text within the PDF. For true text replacement, a full PDF editing suite like Adobe Acrobat is required. This tool is ideal for adding comments, signatures, stamps, highlights, and drawings to PDF documents.
FAQ
Edit PDF — FAQ
Can I edit existing text in a PDF?▼
No — this tool adds new annotations on top of the existing PDF. Editing the original text inside a PDF requires parsing the internal font and glyph data, which is not reliably possible in a browser without the original document files.
Are annotations permanent in the output PDF?▼
Yes. When you save, all annotations are rasterized and embedded into each page as an image layer. They cannot be removed from the saved PDF — they are baked in permanently.
Can I edit all pages in a multi-page PDF?▼
Yes. Use the Prev/Next buttons to navigate between pages. Each page has its own annotation layer. All pages (annotated or not) will be included in the saved PDF.
